Celebrating International Peace Day

On September 21st, 2016 we celebrated International Peace Day spreading the messages of peace love and inclusion.
In commemorating the International Day of Peace GPYC organized a day of activities to promote and encourage peace as part of the global movement. From walking to drawing, meeting new friends and engaging the community, the day ensured messages of peace were seen and heard. Participants came together to spread the message of the year’s theme “building blocks for peace” and in doing so supported the global recognition of peace.

Youth from various backgrounds participated in the ‘Walk for Peace’ whereby participants walked from New Road to Basantaphur Durbar square. Celebrating the Day with passers-bys at the end of the walk, participants engaged in games allowing for public awareness and commemoration of the day. Calling upon their acting skills, participants engaged in a live version of ‘Guess Who’ where participants were tasked with describing a world Peace Leader through acting. Bringing out their artistic ability participants “tattooed” themselves with symbols of peace, two participants choosing the dove and the peace sign, two universal signs of Peace.

The United Nation has been marking September 21st of every year as the International Peace Day. First celebrated in 1982, the day is dedicated to global peace, “strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.”
