If you 'want' your place to be CLEAN, be 'willing' to make your hands DIRTY! by : Kripa Sigdel

It was another beautiful morning, perfectly favored by the weather, when we set ourselves to clean Nag-Pokhari.
We, the members of GPYC Youth Forum, always focused to accomplish some ‘ action for Change’  every month voluntarily. And as for this reason, for the month of Februrary, we had planned to clean up NAG-POKHARI.

18 open members gathered on Saturday on the premises of Nag-Pokhari. We had materials such as sweepers, dust-pickers, dust-bins, gloves and masks. Yes! it took us 2 and half  hours to clean up everything (the unwanted plastics, dust , and all sorts of trash) inside the premises of Nag-Pokhari including the Pond .

At the end, we all had the big SATISFACTION. We are happy of what we did. Atleast , some of us could be able to intiate this kind of action to our community which ,hopefully, encourage some other  youth from Nag-Pokhari to continously maintain cleanliness in their area.

Yes! We, youth from various parts of kathmandu, came there and with our joint efforts have made  the Nag-Pokhari a clean place. This was how we spent our Saturday morning last 22 February 2014.

At the end, we are thankful to the club (Nag-Pokhari Samiti) for the full support on our work. We are happy to have them in our cleanliness program. Still, the responsibility of keeping this place clean, green and unpolluted is from the side of the  people living around that area. Nobody from outside is going to come time and again.

So, for this purpose, we also posted some reminders  quoting ''Cleanliness is the responsibility of good citizen''. ''If we can’t do, nobody will do on our behalf. So, Lets keep our pleace clean''.

I wonder, why people who go there on everyday basis can't take a 10 mins off their routine and contribute a part of keeping Nagpokhari a tidy place. Don't people know its not good to make such a cultural heritage polluted? Aren't they aware of the fact that, keeping our place clean will do good to ourselves, not any outsider? If they are aware, then , why are they  hesitated to maintain cleanliness? Where is the problem?

We hope and believe that our intiation will definitely motivate the people living around this place. Also, the success of this event will definitely encourage our forum members to continue do other actions with the full heart.

At last but not the least, being a coordinator of GPYC Youth Forum, I would like to thank each one of the volunteers, the local club and especially GPYC for the belief, support and trust in this Youth-Led Forum and its activity. GRATTITUDE!!!
