Leadership Seminar Shapes New Generation of Leaders

A 3-Day leadership seminar designed to strengthen the role that young people play as future community and world leader was held on October 10 -12, 2012 under the theme “Empowering youth through creative, constructive and positive way.”

From students of class 11 to bachelor level, all participants who attended the seminar learned about the importance of being moral leaders. “Prior to registration, I was hesitated to join the seminar. But then, the lectures, activities and trainings that I have learned have made me feel good and thankful without any regret at all because it taught us the true definition of a leader, “Ms. Biniri Maharjan, a participant and student of Mega college shared during their reflection time.

In addition to learning to become moral leaders, the seminar also focused on developing leaders for innovation and change. The seminar framework includes presentations, discussions and interactive approaches to leadership.  Participants were encouraged to broaden their perspectives on youth issues and are provided with the leadership skills they needed to become leaders. Participants were given a schedule to visit and interview VIP level persons. Each group had a dialogue and consultation meeting with each renowned leader and after which was a presentation to the class.

“The seminar was invigorating because we were able to express our comprehension, talents and attitudes in small group sharing in the form of oral presentation that encouraged us to take responsibility to lead and be accountable for ourselves by behaving in a manner according to what we have learned and to further develop and perform better in any activity , “ said Mr.Binaya Khadka , a 2nd year BASW student of  Kwapa College International.

The objective of the seminar was to move from generally good practices, to a more conscious competence to strengthen specific skills among youth of different characters.

During their class session, some presenters explained related topics based on their real life experience. Mrs laxmi Sharma, a successful Nepalese woman entrepreneur and the first Nepali woman tempo driver, clarified that education is needed for entrepreneurship. “We need education to acquire knowledge and have a positive attitude but not to be over smart, “she added.

Likewise, Dr. Rebati Man Shrestha, a Veterinary and livestock specialist, focused to achieve economic growth and poverty alleviation through accelerated growth within agricultural sector that would help solve unemployment problem in Nepal. Dr. Shrestha shared some successful story regarding the topics concerning resource centre development and new project for livestock development in Nepal.

The participants examined ways to link their own-designed projects to achieve outstanding results and build credibility and trust in every interaction with other people.

In his remarks, Chief Guest and Nepali Congress youth leader, former National student union President Mr. Pradip Poudel mentioned that Nepal has long term problems such as brain drain and labor drain.
