National Youth Empowerment Seminar Expands Youth Greatest Potential in Community Peace-building and Development

July 13,2012  ------------

“Young people are the heartbeat of Nepal. They have big dreams. How many of you want to be the master of your own destiny?”

To further spread  the message from the International Chairman Dr. Hyun Jin Moon during his speech to a large crowd of young people gathered during the Global Peace Festival – South East Asia 2010, GPYC-Nepal has been continuously organizing youth empowerment seminar.

On July 6 to 8, 2012, National Youth Empowerment Seminar for Sustainable Peace, Development, and Environmental Management was organized and held in Bastolathar, Pokhara, Kaski, Nepal.

The Principal speaker of the session, Mr. Dhruba Prasad Lamichhane, GPYC-Nepal President, opened the event by outlining the core value of GPYC. He reminded all participants that they have the capacity and power to make a difference. He advised them to continue to seek opportunities to enhance their leadership skills, including sincerity and a sense of community service.

The seminar, geared at equipping participants with a deep understanding on youth empowerment, was attended by 70 young individuals from different colleges and youth clubs.

“I have a strong feeling that I am capable to do big accomplishments – a bigger thing which is started from a small beginning right now, “said Mr. Pramod Ghimere, one of the participants.

During group discussions and brainstorming sessions following the presentations, participants exchanged ideas on how to positively impact their societies and the global community. A 3-5 minutes creative drama on youth voice was presented by each team on the second day as a creative and ingenious tool to assess in positively developing a determined attitude.

Ms. Sushila Sharma, one of the participants, realized that a selfish person leads a man to nowhere in the society. “We need to live in greatest potential and pursue our passion.”

All other eight well-experienced speakers shared how their commitments in cultivating ethical responsibility and uplifting the lives of young people prove that an individual can create change and influence society.  “Teaching them is life-changing, through the seminar it helps them gain inside strategies and skills to transform their lives so that youth can be engaged and motivated to succeed, “said Mr. Hem Raj Acharya, Instructor of Amnesty International.

During the graduation seminar, Mr. Ram Kailash Bichha, Principal of Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management College, advised all participants to direct their youthful energy and creativity as proactive members of the society. Mr. Bichha appreciated the organizers for the fruitful event.

During the closing of the program, Chief Guest, Mr. Ishwor Raj Poudel, Local Development Officer of Kaski District, said that attitude is the most important thing to consider to achieving our goals. “There are two things to reflect on empowerment; voice and choice. We have to break and tear apart the social evils in the society like a spider web that creates a mess. Mr. Poudel expressed his support to empower young leaders as productive members of the society.

The National Youth Empowerment seminar was successfully conducted through partnership with Pokhara Sub-metropolitan City, Lekhanath Municipality, Wildlife Conservation Nepal, and Centre for Training Research and Development Consultancy. The event was effectively coordinated by Mr. Anil Pandey, Project leader Kaski District.
